The Sustainable Safe Disposal Model

In 2008 the Ministry of Power and Energy, Sri Lanka announced special renewable energy tariff for electricity generated from (MSW) waste so as to make the waste to electricity business a viable one. In 2014 the fixed flat tariff was upped to a very attractive Rs 23.10 per kwh Sri Lanka generates about 7,000 tons of waste everyday, of which almost 4,000 ton (of this waste) is generated within the Western Province of the Country.

The unavailability of suitable lands and failure of successive Governments and Local Authority governing bodies in obtaining public approval for new final disposal sites for waste has been the single major drawback of the last several years.

This has caused tremendous difficulties in implementing final disposal of waste projects especially in the Western Province of Sri Lanka.
